Here’s an exercise that smothers writer’s block. It takes 10 to 30 minutes.
- Sit still and let the jumble of thoughts, memories, emotions fly out like blackbirds until your mind is a blank.
- Start talking to a good friend in your head.
- In the middle of the conversation, pick up your pen.
- Write. Don’t stop the flow to think of the right word. Keep on talking to your friend and writing down the conversation.
Later, go back and read the words or just keep writing. In the end, O-M-G, you’ll be so surprised. It’ll be like magical bonanza, like rabbits flying out of top hats. Where did all the words come from?? So long, writer’s block.
